Itinerary
Day 1 - Imlil & Atlas Mountains Adventure
Escape the heat of Marrakech and embark on a full-day adventure into the Atlas Mountains, visiting Imlil and the surrounding Berber villages. Enjoy a scenic mule ride, pass through traditional villages, and take in the breathtaking views of the countryside. Savor a traditional lunch in a Berber house and enjoy a short walk with your guide before returning to Marrakech. The Atlas Mountains and Imlil day trip is one of the most spectacular excursions from Marrakech, perfect for those looking to escape the city and experience the authentic rural side of Morocco.
We will begin our Imlil day trip at 9:00 a.m. with a 2-hour drive south in a 4WD vehicle or minivan, passing through the scenic Moulay Brahim Gorges and the charming Berber village of Asni, famous for its weekly Saturday market. From there, we will continue to Imlil, a small village nestled at the foothills of Morocco’s highest peak, Mount Toubkal.
Imlil is a hub for mountain guides and mule rentals, thanks to its central location and connection to various Berber villages. It is also a popular starting point for treks and hikes, including the ascent of Mount Toubkal. Upon arriving in Imlil, we will leave our vehicle and take mules for a 40-minute ride to the Berber village of Aroumd (Aremd) (1,843 m), situated in the upper foothills of the Western High Atlas Mountains. This village is a key trailhead with streams and paths branching in all directions.
Here, we will enjoy a traditional lunch in a local Berber home. Afterward, you will have the opportunity to take a short walk around the village before we head back to Marrakech.
