Day 1 - Marrakech – ImiOughlad – Tizi N'Tachte – Tiziane
We start early in the morning from Marrakech for a pleasant drive south, following our way up through the Moulay Brahim Gorge and UpperValleys to arrive at the higher foot hills of the Western High Atlas Mountains. Our path leads to ImiOughlad (1450m) withJbel Toubkal (4167m – the highest peak in North Africa), Aglzim (3650m) and Aksoual (3847m) looming in front of us. Here we will meet the Berber muleteercrew – always a fun part of our treks. We star tour trek up in a northwest direction for a 2 h acclimatisation hike up switch back mule tracks, will pass by some corn fields, pine and juniper forests to Tizi N’Tachte (2000m). Here we will have a stop to look back down on Imlil and Ait OussadenValleys, before continuing for another half an hour to Imi N’Ifri and our picnic place. After the picnic there will be a slow hike for about 2,5 h southwest down along a dirt track to Assif N’Ait Oussaden and the red clay terraced Tiziane village (1750m). Here we will spend the night in gite d’etape or bivouac.
Day 2 - Tizziane – Tizi N’Taghrhourte – D’knt
After breakfast we will hike up alongAssif N’Ait OussadenValley passing through walnut groves up to Tizi N’Taghrhourte (1995m) to a rare almost flat stretch to arrive to Assakaspring. Here we will have a stop for our field picnic. Our afternoon hike will take down along the edge of the forest until we reach D’knt village (1870m), where we will enjoy our dinner. We will spend the night in a family home or in a bivouac.
Day 3 - D’knt – Tizi N’Tagdalte – TiziOussem
Our 3 hour morning hike goes up through groves of walnut trees, fields of corn and barley. On our way we will meet many sheep and goat herders, as well as women with children carrying heavy loads of dates and dried herbs. Wew illpassTizi N’Tagdalte to descent through juniper trees until we reach a small spring, where we have our picnic. After enjoying some refreshments, we set off down winding tracks of upper slopes for approx. 3 h to arrive to a small river at the beginning of Assif N’Ait Oussaden Valley. Our destination of the day isTiziOussem village (1850m), where we will have our dinner and accommodation in a mountain gite d’etape.
Day 4 - TiziOussem – Tizi M’Zzik – Imlil – back to Marrakech
After breakfast the path will lead us up through pine and juniper trees to Tizi M’Zzik (2450m) and descent slowly to M’Zzik village, where in the middle of orchards of cherry, apple and nut trees and the surrounding peaks, we will have our picnic. In the afternoon we set off down to Imlil village and the end of your trek. Here the transportation will be provided to bring you back to Marrakech.
